The Ikeja Jacket is one of the new styles that we introduced in Jollof Collection. It is named after Ikeja, the capital of Lagos state, where the city’s working class resides.

A shirt jacket that can be worn with or without a top underneath, it was designed to reflect the utilitarian values that you find in a place like Ikeja.

For the Jollof collection, we made this jacket from a deadstock ribbed chenille cotton (Think of a fuzzy corduroy) treated in "Adire" - A hand dyeing process developed by the Yorubas in the Southwest region of Nigeria. Prior to dyeing, the artist hand paints patterns using a wax or cassava starch paste that acts as the resist dye.

Our decision to collaborate with the ribbed chenille was because it allowed the garment to reflect the texture of the Jollof rice dish found in West Africa; as well as to convey the sense of intimacy, warmth, and comfort you feel when you are in community.

This is a very soft, and cozy jacket. Made out of love towards the chenille cotton by our adire artisans in Nigeria and our manufacturing partners in Kenya.

When you buy this jacket, like all our other products, please intend to wear them as often as you can. Clothing is meant to be put on the body, instead of being treated as a grail or a trophy.
